Features:
- Includes Subversion, Apache, a fully supported version of Linux and WANdisco's unique multi-site replication technology that allows distributed developers to collaborate at LAN-speed over a WAN, instead of working in silos.
- Combines the zero-latency deployment offered by hosted Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for Subversion, with all of the flexibility, control and security of traditional behind the firewall implementations.
- Eliminates environmental dependencies, making installation, deployment and ongoing maintenance a snap.
- Available for any target virtualization environment including VMware ESX, Citrix XenServer, and Windows with Hyper-V.
- Ongoing maintenance and support are also dramatically simplified with automatic updates for all appliance components, including Subversion, Apache, Linux and WANdisco. There's no more one-off manual upgrades and patches.
- An entire multi-site implementation can be monitored and administered from a single location.
- Sites can be brought online, or taken offline for maintenance without disrupting user access.
- Built-in continuous hot backup and automated recovery features virtually eliminate downtime, making third party disk mirroring solutions unnecessary.
- Transparent implementation approach doesn't change Subversion's functionality, so no user retraining is required.

What is a Virtual Appliance?
A virtual appliance is a software application combined with Linux that provides everything needed for deployment in a virtual machine, or on industry standard hardware. Virtual appliances minimize the tasks required for installation, configuration and maintenance, by isolating applications from the operating environment. WANdisco's Subversion MultiSite Appliance comes pre-packaged with Apache, Subversion and WANdisco's unique replication software. Upgrades and patches for all of the components are retrieved from WANdisco's support server and applied to each location's Subversion MultiSite Appliance installation automatically without having to reload the application image.
Performance and Scalability
With the Subversion MultiSite Software Appliance there are no tradeoffs in performance or scalability. In fact, performance is often superior and scalability is much easier to achieve.
In the case of performance, with a virtual software appliance all of the components, including the operating system, are configured for the specific application and virtual machine environment. With its smaller footprint, the appliance consumes fewer resources, and delivers superior performance than deployment under a traditional fat OS designed to run on multiple pieces of hardware and support a broad range of applications.
In addition, in many IT organizations doing a standard implementation, the Apache Web server is often configured to support a number of applications, not just Subversion. The Subversion MultiSite Software Appliance includes an Apache Web server, preconfigured for optimal performance with Subversion only.
In the area of scalability, when additional system resources are needed to support increased user and transaction loads, traditional implementations can be more difficult to scale because the OS is closely tied in with the hardware. Virtual software appliances like the Subversion MultiSite Software Appliance can easily be moved to faster machines, even on the fly, using tools such as VMware's VMotion, and similar offerings from other vendors.
What is Subversion MultiSite?
Subversion MultiSite leverages WANdisco's unique active-active replication technology to immediately synchronize Subversion repositories connected over a wide area network (WAN), so that they become perfect peer replicas, or mirrors of each other. Users at every location experience local area network (LAN) speed performance for both read and write operations. Developers at different locations can simultaneously checkout and checkin the same files at the same time. Update conflicts and other problems can be detected and resolved as they occur, instead of days or weeks later, so there's less QA and rework. Subversion MultiSite also provides continuous hot backup and selfhealing capabilities that automate disaster recovery and eliminate the need for third party disk mirroring solutions. As a result, downtime is virtually eliminated.
Automatic Update Service
Feature updates and patches for all of the components are retrieved from WANdisco's update server and applied to each location's Subversion MultiSite Appliance automatically, without having to reload the application image. Upgrades and patches no longer have to be applied manually.
Transparent Implementation
WANdisco's Subversion MultiSite Appliance acts as a transparent network proxy between Subversion clients and the Subversion repository at each location. This means that Subversion client configuration changes aren't needed, and Subversion's functionality doesn't change. As a result, both developers and administrators can use the clients and tools they're familiar with, without any retraining.
